As Great as a Mustard Seed

A mustard seed is as small as a freckle on my hand, yet it can grow into a tall tree or a big leafy plant that can reach six feet tall, towering over the smaller plants in the garden.  The book of Matthew tells us if our faith is as big as a tiny mustard seed, we could tell the mountain to move, and it would move (Matthew 17:20). There is another scripture where Jesus is talking about a mustard seed that represents the Kingdom of God.

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.” Matthew 13:31-32

In other words, we see in scripture that a tiny mustard seed can represent something so outstanding and large, it’s almost incomprehensible. To think that God would use something so tiny to show us something so great.

There is something else that is just a sliver of importance when it comes to its entirety, musical worship. Our life is our worship unto God. We worship Him with our attitudes with our generosity, with our actions and faith. A life of worship is a life-long pursuit of God and relationship with Him; everything we do is to glorify Him. As I was studying about how something so small can make such a big impact, God reminded me that musical worship may be a tiny mustard seed in the big picture of living our lives in worship, but such a tiny seed can grow into a mighty tree.

I had a vison a few years ago of a stadium of tens of thousands of people all singing “Jesus” at the top of their lungs. As they were singing, I saw chains breaking off people that had been in bondage of addiction, of suicidal thoughts, of anxiety and fear. There was such a stirring of excitement and adoration unto God, that I could see it shifting things in the atmosphere. One tiny voice singing one word, makes a huge impact.

“God’s high and holy praises are their weapons of war! These warring weapons will bring vengeance on the nations and every resistant power- to bind kings with chains and rulers with iron shackles.” Psalm 149:6-8 TPT

I believe that there is a deep desire from the Lord to hear His people sing! Let us fill this nation with shouts of praise unto God! Let us lift our hands, kneel, dance, and praise Him from the depths of our hearts. Let us remember that worship is not about us, it is for God and lifting up His name. In our worship, He inhabits our praises, and He changes things. I’ve seen many miracles amid worship. People hearing words from the Lord, people feeling His love for the first time. I’ve seen people brought to their knees weeping as the presence of God was overwhelming (including myself). Worship may be a tiny offering as small as a mustard seed, but it makes a large impact. My prayer for this nation is that we truly worship God in spirit and truth and to make His name great through song and praise. Don’t hold back as you think your praise may be tiny and insignificant. It can change a nation, just as our faith can move a mountain.
